Job summary

The BCHW Advice Line, MARU and Early Help Hub provide the front door to childrens health, early help and safeguarding services. The integrated team includes professionals from Health, Social Care, Education, and Early Help, working together to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Contact Worker to join the Best Start, Community Health and Wellbeing Service (BCHW) Advice Line team within the Health Visiting and School Nursing service which is integrated with Children's Social Care. This frontline role provides a single point of contact for families, young people, professionals and partner agencies seeking advice and support responses for children and families in Cornwall.

Job responsibilities

You will be part of an enthusiastic and friendly team who are passionate about helping children and families. The roles require excellent skills in communication and building effective relationships with key partners. You will be flexible and be able to at times work under pressure and with competing timescales. You will receive good support and supervision.

We are interested to hear from people who have experience in working in health, education or social care settings and have a good understanding of the challenges facing families in Cornwall. We want to hear from people who want to make a difference to children's experiences and help them access early and meaningful support that will make a difference to their lives.

The post is varied and challenging, involving processing and coordinating telephone and electronic referrals and requests for support related to Health Visiting and School Nursing.

Main Duties

  • Contact workers are directed and supported to:
  • Collate the information required to ensure that families are offered a service proportionate to need.
  • Upload and manage information electronically.
  • Ensure that all referrals, requests and enquiries for support/help receive the appropriate level of attention dependent on the information provided.
  • Ensure that all requests and referrals are processed within time scales.
  • Maintain high standards of care, confidentiality and information governance.
  • Work collaboratively within an integrated multi-agency team.
  • Provide signposting where appropriate.
  • Support families and professionals to complete electronic requests for help

This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Experience in a client focused role
  • Excellent communication skills, including telephone work
  • Ability to maintain accurate electronic records
  • Understanding of safeguarding children and data protection
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • 4 GCSEs (AC) including English, or equivalent
  • Confident IT user
