For this role, strong experience of working in a public health role is essential, and you must be educated to a Master's degree level. Your innovative and forward thinking approach will enable you to capitalise on new opportunities and initiate transformative ways of working. Your knowledge of public health concepts, combined with your ability to use evidence-based research methods to gather, interpret and present complex data in a meaningful way to a variety of audiences will be key. Experience of working in local government on physical activity, climate change or the wider determinants of health is preferable, though not essential.
Main duties of the job
Youll develop, advise on and co-deliver programmes of work in areas such as transport, green infrastructure, air quality and active travel, helping us deliver theClimate Change Strategy.Youll also support our partners to take a public health approach to increasing physical activity levels across the County, with a particular focus on inequalities, capitalising on our strong relationships with council teams, our local active partnership, the NHS and our Districts and Boroughs.

Develop, implement, commission, deliver and performance manage a range of public health programmes and projects across Hampshire to address agreed public health priorities for tackling inactivity and climate change.
Provide specialist technical support to the County Council, professional groups, partner organisations and other key stakeholders to ensure there is a co-ordinated and evidence-based approach to programme/project implementation.
Main responsibilities:
- Physical activity
- Provide specialist, technical input into the planning, commissioning and delivery of physical activity programmes across the Council and in partnership with other stakeholders such as the voluntary sector, District Councils and NHS.
- Provide specialist, technical input into place-based programme and whole systems approaches to improving health.
- Work within the organisation to embed physical activity into the work of other departments and teams such as planning, transport, environment.
- Contribute to, and lead on some aspects of programme implementation to improve levels of physical activity in our population in line with Hampshire Public Health Strategy and other key strategies and policies.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of the evidence base for population public health as it relates to physical activity.
- Generate and apply insight data to inform the development of targeted interventions with communities at high risk of poorer outcomes to reduce inequalities. Contribute to needs assessments, public engagement and equity audits.
- Develop evidence-based outcome measures to be able to monitor, evaluate and report on the performance of public health services/programmes/projects and key public health outcomes.
- Manage, develop and sustain key working relationships across a number of organisations, providing specialist public health input to a range of partnerships in order to facilitate collaborative working with commissioners, providers, private sector and voluntary sector stakeholders. Identify local public health priorities and develop the action plans, policies and strategies to meet these priorities.
- Allocate and manage resources, including budgets, for specific public health services, programmes and projects.
- Contribute to public health training, including public health training for trainees and practitioners who have a public health focus to their jobs, and for multi-agency, community-based training events to promote and support the delivery of public health initiatives and programmes.
- Deputise for the Public Health Principal as required.
- Contribute to local and national public health audits and research projects in order to develop evidence of effectiveness in a range of public health areas.
