Role Overview:

  • Lead a team of Occupational Nurses and in-house counsellor.
  • Support the councils workforce of 10,000 across Derbyshire.
  • Collaborate with Occupational Health physicians, counselling service, Health and Safety, and HR colleagues.
  • Work with external customers, including Schools and District Councils.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Registered General Nurse with OH Diploma or Degree.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Customer, performance, and solution focused.
  • Proven track record of high standards, clinically and operationally.
  • Passionate about proactive OH benefits.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the team and work clinically.
  • Deliver face-to-face assessments, case management, workplace assessments, pre-employment screening, and health surveillance.
  • Provide advice to colleagues and managers.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams internally.
  • Based at County Hall, Matlock; report to Health and Safety Manager, Policy and Wellbeing Development.
  • Interact with employees from various roles in diverse work environments.
  • Travel around the county occasionally; driving is essential.

  • Contribute to the delivery of the Health Safety and Wellbeing Strategy and Action Plan and recommend areas for future development.
  • Manage, promote and contribute to an agreed occupational health programme, to include both work-related and general health issues.
  • Identify and contribute to the development and implementation of Occupational Health policies, practices and new initiatives to reflect current trends, working collaboratively across the wellbeing function and consulting with key stakeholders.
  • Manage the Occupational Health Unit using operational excellence as a basis for modernising service delivery so it is effective in delivering the aims of the Councils Health Safety and Wellbeing Action Plan.
  • Supervise team performance, ensure team member training and developmental needs are identified and met.
  • Maintain and monitor existing occupational health and wellbeing contracts, and contribute to the procurement of future cost effective, value adding occupational health and associated wellbeing contracts to ensure they meet service needs.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor the health surveillance programme.
