Hull City Council Occupational Health Team has a vacancy and we are keen to hear from people who are looking to start or progress a career in occupational health.
This role is varied in the duties and there is lots of scope to become involved in Council health projects. Being able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with clients, colleagues and managers is vital to the role as is the ability to establish trust and confidence with a wide range of people. The Council is committed to promoting and protecting the mental health and wellbeing of staff. Therefore, applicants who have post-registration experience working with and supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing or a strong interest in developing knowledge and skills in this area are encouraged to apply. Main duties of the job
Applicants will need to be a registered nurse on part one of the Nursing & Midwifery Council register. You will work with a long term established in-house small, friendly team and experience of working within the field of occupational health is not essential as full in-house training will be provided, although some knowledge or experience of the following may be helpful.
- working in accident & emergency nursing, practice nursing, or both
- public health, infection control
- psychological health
- mental health & wellbeing
- management of sickness absence
- rehabilitation of staff with chronic conditions
The Councils in-house occupational health team is specialist nurse lead with access to external occupational health physicians as and when required. The service carries out a wide variety of tasks associated with absence and capability assessments (a maximum of 4 x OH clinical assessment appointments per day), health surveillance and provision of health advice to managers and employees in a diverse public sector environment which includes schools and academy staff. The role will see you working closely with employees' line managers & human resource staff to support good health at work, identifying and preventing work-related health problems, promoting healthy living, and working conditions, understanding the effects of work on health and of health on work and helping to deliver the Councils Health, Safety & Wellbeing Strategy.
