In our roles we have the privilege of supporting children with complex needs, and with this comes huge celebration but also at times a considerable challenge.

To become a successful member of our service we ask that people are resilient, reflective and understand that sometimes the responsibilities in the role can be challenging.

Very often our busiest times are during school holidays therefore we ask that staff do not take more than 2 weeks annual leave during this time, we also have strict number on how many staff can have time off at any one time.

It is important to understand that you will need to work shift patterns, this will include late nights, early mornings and staying overnight to support the needs of individual children.

As a service we encourage all our staff to take part in frequent training, this will include courses at different levels as well as additional training courses as and when required. All our staff must hold a full driving licence.

Pay and enhancements:37 hours per week, plus enhancements (up to £4,000 per year)

  • Start rate is £13.90 per hour, rising to £14.82 per hour.
  • Overnight rate is £18.53 per hour, rising to £19.76 per hour.
  • Saturday rate is £20.85 per hour, rising to £22.23 per hour.
  • Sunday and bank holiday rate is £27.80 per hour, rising to £29.64 per hour

The ethos of the services is to provide a home for children with complex needs in line withindividual needs and care plans. To work with the children to enhance and promote the lifeexperiences and independence skills of the young people.

This work will take place in a Childrens Home based in Devon and will include supporting theyoung person in accessing local facilities. We will be open 52 weeks a year and provide aservice in a flexible way based on the needs of the individual young people.

To involve children and families in the day to day running of the service, providing children andyoung people with the opportunity to express their views in an age appropriate way, to havetheir opinions listened to and to be able to influence the shaping of services.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The post holder will support the young person and will be responsible for the care, includingsupport and supervision of the young person during their time in the Home in line with theirindividual profiles and risk assessments. This could include any property or equipment used oraccessed.

The post holder will have a person-centred approach when working with the young people onset aims and targets as detailed in their care plans. This post will involve working with youngpeople whose behaviour at times may be challenging and supporting them with their complex needs on a regular basis.

Provide care for young people in accordance with the Childrens Homes policies andprocedures and assisting them with day-to-day activities.

Provide a safe environment for the young people, including the community to develop their skills and understanding.

Compliance with Safeguarding policies and procedures

Delegation to plan activities to build the confidence and self-esteem of individual youngpeople.

Maintaining each young person's personal file, completing reports and keeping records.

Administer first aid as necessary.

Keeping the Childrens Home clean, tidy and safe.

Preparing meals with young people.

Working as part of a team and attending staff meetings.
