Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our dedicated team based within Devon Partnership NHS Trust's Secure Services, Low and Medium Secure Units for male service users at Langdon Hospital, Dawlish.
As an Approved Mental Health Professional you will be expected to maintain warrant and authorisation by Devon County Council and contribute to Devon Daytime AMHP Service Duty rota.
About the RoleWorking as part of a specialist Forensic Social Work Team, you will support individuals detained under the Mental Health Act with complex mental health needs and a history of significant risk and/or offending.
Your role will be vital in promoting the social work and social care agenda within a secure inpatient setting, ensuring that care is lawful, ethical, therapeutic and person-centred while also contributing to public protection and community safety.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
Public Protection: Assessing and managing risk in collaboration with partner agencies including MAPPA, the police, probation, and the courts, ensuring community safety is central to discharge planning and ongoing care.
Advocacy & Rights-Based Practice: Promoting the voice of the individual, advocating for fair and ethical treatment at every stage of care.Family & Carer Support: Engaging with and supporting families and carers within the Trusts Carer Strategy which is built on our Triangle of Care membership. We aim to involve and strengthen networks relationships and improve recovery outcomes.Legal Frameworks: Supporting MDT colleagues in practicing within relevant legal frameworks including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, and criminal justice processes to safeguard rights and support robust care planning.Property & Finances: Assisting service users in managing property and finances, liaising with local authorities, DWP, and other statutory agencies.Multi-Agency Collaboration: Supporting communication with external agencies and contributing to holistic and well coordinated care pathways.Safeguarding: Supporting adult and child safeguarding where appropriate, ensuring timely action, robust information-sharing, and multi-agency coordination.About us
