Job summary

Job Overview Bath and North East Somerset Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and registered Social Worker to lead the strategic development of our AMHP and Safeguarding Assurance service. This is a senior leadership role within our newly formed Adult Social Care Operations and Safeguarding structures. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of the all-age AMHP service, managing risk, and ensuring robust quality assurance processes are in place for adult safeguarding. The role combines strategic oversight with operational leadership, including direct line management of Safeguarding Adults Managers and Independent Chairs. This is a unique opportunity to shape safeguarding and mental health practice across the directorate, working closely with internal teams and external partners, including the B&NES Community Safety & Safeguarding Partnership (BCSSP). Main duties of the job

  • Embedding Making Safeguarding Personal principles throughout all safeguarding interventions.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to promote a culture of vigilance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Providing assurance to the BCSSP on community safety and adult social care delivery, including AMHP duties
About You

You will be a qualified Social Worker and Approved Mental Health Professional, with a strong background in adult safeguarding and mental health services. You’ll bring strategic insight, leadership experience, and a commitment to best practice.

You will have:

  • Proven experience in managing safeguarding and AMHP services.
  • Strong understanding of national safeguarding frameworks and AMHP legislation.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across agencies.
  • A proactive approach to risk management and service improvement.
  • The ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a culture of learning and accountability
