Wheelchair Services is part of a thriving Community Therapy
Service, encompassing a range of diverse and exciting teams and services across
the city. The primary objective of the service is to support residents in the
management of their disability or long-term health condition, enabling people
to lead fulfilling, safe and independent lives.
The service promotes safety and independence to wheelchair
users through the provision of new wheelchairs and accessories, as well as
reviews of existing wheelchairs to ensure that provision meets the needs of the
wheelchair user.
The aim is to work with the customer, to find out what is
important to them and how we can provide appropriate equipment to meet their
needs.
Wheelchair Assessors have the opportunity to establish a
caseload of adults and children, conducting assessments in a variety of
environments which may include customers homes, schools or wheelchair clinics.
Main duties of the job
To have the ability to complete assessments of customers
needs which may include, but not limited to, functional assessments, seating
and posture, spatial awareness and safe use of prescribed wheelchairs and
accessories.
To work alongside wheelchair services colleagues, partner
agencies and therapy colleagues, to
deliver an effective, safe, high quality service.
To be adaptable and flexible within the service and to be
able to record all assessments outcomes, maintain records of recommendations
and wheelchair provisions and maintain essential data.
Supervision will be provided by the Wheelchair Service Team
Manager and the post holder will work closely with other services within the
city
The service strives to maintain high standards of customer
care and works with its practitioners to assure continuous professional
development, demonstrating best practise and a high commitment to the
undergraduate education of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy students.
An induction programme, training and support will be
provided.
Candidates should be able to meet the travel requirements of
the post.
This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act
1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and
Barring Service.
About us
Therapies work Monday to Friday, and the council offers
flexible working patterns, including a combination of office based and home
working.
Council grades differ from the NHS Banding system, Council
Grade 7-8 posts are suitable for candidates who are recent graduates, as well
as those with previous experience of working as an Occupational Therapist.
Candidates should either be a registered Occupational Therapist or
Physiotherapist with the HCPC at the point of application for the role or
should have completed their degree and applied for HCPC registration.
Annual Leave entitlement starts at 26 days pro rata, rising
to 31 days pro rata after 5 years service, with previous working in council or
NHS roles considered for annual leave entitlement, provided there is evidence
of continuous service.
For candidates already employed as an Occupational Therapist
or Physiotherapist, there is the option to maintain existing NHS pension, with
contributions from the council for applicants, provided conditions are met.
