Main duties of the job
Your Role: Substance Misuse Nurse
Lead our substance misuse services and be the driving force behind recovery-focused care in our Category B local prison.
What you'll do:
- Deliver Opiate Substitution Therapy (OST) - administer methadone, buprenorphine, and Buvidal injections, ensuring safe, effective treatment for patients on OST pathways
- Drive therapeutic engagement - oversee patients' recovery journeys with a focus on therapeutic engagement, motivation, and progression towards drug-free lives
- Manage detoxification pathways - support patients stabilizing from illicit drugs and alcohol by managing medications, conducting withdrawal assessments, and addressing complications with clinical expertise
- Assess new arrivals - see all new patients requiring detox, implement appropriate care plans, and ensure robust monitoring from day one
- Provide specialist clinical care - conduct bloods, ECGs, and manage blood-borne virus (BBV) screening and treatment for this client group
- Champion MDT working - collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic, coordinated care
- Lead quality improvement - complete audits relating to your area of practice and contribute to service development
- Build partnerships - work alongside external agencies including CGL and prison colleagues to create and sustain a recovery-focused environment
