Main duties of the job

Your Role: Healthcare Support Worker

Be at the heart of our healthcare delivery in this varied, rewarding role. You'll work across multiple areas, developing a broad skill set, and play a vital part in supporting patients through every stage of their healthcare journey in our Category B local prison.

What you'll do:

  • Support medication safety - assist with medication rounds by completing essential controlled drugs verification checks and managing patient access to medication hatches
  • Deliver clinical services - run primary care clinics including phlebotomy, ECGs, smoking cessation reviews, and sexual health screenings
  • Monitor detox patients - work alongside registered nurses to support patients through detoxification by completing regular clinical observations and assessments
  • Assess new arrivals - register patients in reception, take baseline observations, and complete clinical assessment scores to identify immediate health needs
  • Lead public health initiatives - deliver dry blood spot testing (DBST) across the site as part of our blood-borne virus elimination programme
  • Provide holistic care - support our enhanced primary care unit by delivering personal care and tailored social care packages
  • Conduct outreach - complete welfare checks and wing-based reviews, bringing healthcare directly to those who need it
