Job summary
To respond to all medical emergencies as they arise within the prison. To support the delivery of an effective integrated healthcare service clinical model. To manage a small clinical caseload. To carry out effective triage of patients presenting with minor ailments. To provide paramedic interventions within scope of practice. To support the development, implementation and maintenance of the National Standards for Health Care in Prisons for the service.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the assessment, treatment and care of prisoners to reduce inappropriate conveyances and subsequent emergency department admissions, where clinically safe to do so.
To provide care to prisoners within the establishment in collaboration with the wider Multidisciplinary team.
To provide urgent clinical care in the Prison in response to patient need.
Recognise that the local trust may have different protocols and policies for delivery of interventions and medicines from Ambulance and Primary Care providers, and to work within the scope of these protocols.
To respond appropriately to triage requests for assessments and care and to undertake triage.
In the absence of the Clinical lead, to take responsibility for the coordination and realignment of staff resources across the team to ensure capacity meets demand.
Demonstrates analytical and judgemental skills when interpreting and performing acute or complex patient assessments and care planning
