Job summary

It is an exciting time to join HMP Styal Recovery Service, after winning and extending our current contract for a further seven years from 1 April 2023.

If you are passionate, ambitious and want to make a real difference within substance use this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an experienced and dedicated Recovery team at HMP Styal.

The role of support worker is essential within our day to day delivery within the Recovery Service and provides opportunity for excellent learning and development, within a secure environment and establishing essential links through the gate.

A Support Worker plays a key role in assisting the team of recovery coordinators in delivering recovery plans, maintaining accurate case records, and ensuring that all service procedures are followed effectively. While the role is not primarily centred on direct intervention with prisoners, it will involve regular contact with women in prison, assisting with their recovery journey by providing guidance and reinforcing the work of the Recovery Coordinators. The Support Worker will play an essential role in helping the team to maintain a structured and efficient service.

Main duties of the job

The Support Worker will provide services within Spectrum's prison-based Drug & Alcohol recovery-orientated treatment model, as part of a flexible, innovative, and creative team. The role will ensure that key elements of the service (assessment, case management, psychosocial interventions, release planning, and throughcare) are delivered to a high standard. The Support Worker will assist Recovery Coordinators in supporting service users to achieve recovery goals and positive outcomes, maximising engagement and retention.

While not focused on direct intervention with prisoners, the role involves regular contact with women in prison, providing guidance and assisting in their recovery journey, reinforcing the work of Recovery Coordinators. The position is flexible, adapting to meet the evolving needs of the service. The Support Worker will work effectively with colleagues under the direction of the Drug & Alcohol Service Manager (Recovery) and Senior Practitioners, maintaining high performance standards.

The role follows a strengths-based, recovery-orientated, and trauma-informed approach. The Support Worker will collaborate with partners, contribute to parole, HDC, and ROTL processes, and attend adjudications and ACCT reviews when required. They will adhere to HR processes and work within service protocols to ensure successful outcomes for service users.
