Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Governance and Nursing Directorate at Spectrum for a Head of Risk.
This is a new post that will be fundamental in supporting the business to mature its approach to risk management. Applications are encouraged from individuals with and without a clinical qualification who have significant experience in risk management and clinical governance.
The post holder will have responsibility for overseeing and delivering the Risk Strategy for the organisation and developing and managing the risk management framework.
The post holder will lead the implementation of the organisations incident management policy and embedding of RLDatix and will work with the patient safety lead to ensure effective clinical governance systems, processes are in place using triangulated data to drive learning and improvement.
The post holder will be a key member of the Nursing and Clinical Governance Directorate and will work in close collaboration with colleagues.

Main duties of the job
- Provide visible and effective leadership for the organisation wide delivery of the Risk Strategy and the Risk Management Framework, with a focus on developing and embedding risk maturity.
- To develop and deliver a culture of continuous improvement in risk management.
- Promote the risk management strategy and plans to build understanding of, support for, and action in embedding risk management as a means of improving the governance, performance and decision making across the organisation.
- Provide the required assurances to the Spectrum's Board and Executive Directors that risk management is fit for purpose; that it is embedded in the organisation and that risk is managed safely and effectively.
- Be accountable for the provision of an organisation wide risk function, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and creating a culture of improvement.
- Ensure RLDatix is developed and embedded throughout the organisation, driving an effective reporting culture with a focus on learning.
- Support the Deputy Director of Nursing in implementing the clinical governance framework across the organisation.
- Keep up to date with current corporate governance frameworks and arrangements, to ensure legal compliance and best practice in risk management.
- Develop and promote risk management initiatives.
- Work with other corporate departments and operational teams to review and strengthen risk management systems.

Essential
- Educated to a master's degree level in a relevant topic area, with relevant post graduate professional qualifications or clear demonstrable equivalent experience. Evidence of a formal risk management qualification Demonstrable experience in leading Risk Management in an NHS setting
- Highly developed specialist knowledge of risk management. Extensive knowledge of clinical governance and risk frameworks, particularly but not exclusively within the NHS. Comprehensive understanding of clinical risk with the ability to exercise independent and professional judgement across a range of risk areas. Able to demonstrate strategic thinking and develop/ formulate long term strategic plans over a number of years. Able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and professions across the organisation. Ability to prepare comprehensive, fit for purpose and audience specific reports, briefing papers and presentations to agreed timescales. Ability to prepare and deliver training and presentations on risk management to staff at all levels with credibility. Detailed understanding of current healthcare policy and the implications of this for the organisation. Able to deal with a large and unpredictable workload ensuring key priorities and conflicting deadlines are met through effective time management.
- A proven track record of Risk Management and Clinical Governance delivery at a senior level in a large, complex health organisation including staff management, change management and quality assurance/improvement. Demonstrable experience in leading the implementation of the incident management policy and embedding of RLDatix or similar systems. Demonstrate excellent planning and organisational skills and the professionalism to make adjustments if targets are not met. Demonstrate credibility in working with and influencing senior staff.
