Job summary

Deputy Heads of Healthcare are essential in supporting the Head of Healthcare in the management and leadership of complex prison sites including 24/7 high quality clinical and operational healthcare within HMP Durham across a multi agency partnership.

The post holder is responsible for the effective day-to-day operational management of all clinical services across the prison under delegated authority from the Head of Healthcare and may lead the development of a particularly complex delivery area. The postholder will manage service level agreements, ensuring performance-monitoring standards are adhered to and the highest standards of care are maintained. They will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the essential standards of quality and safety and be guided by general policies and interpret as required.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy head of Healthcare will assist the Head of Heathcare in the management and delivery of healthcare services, You will be required to have oversight of the clinical governance processes and be actively involved in developing and completing actions plans for continuous service improvement. The Deputy head of Healthcare will be required to fully participate in collating evidence for the Quality Improvement plan and will ensure all service objectives are met and will proactively identify any areas in need of improvement

Essential

  • Experienced RGN/RMN or healthcare professional with current registration.
  • Suitable management qualification or equivalent training/experience
  • Evidence of clinical skill development and training

Desirable

  • Prescriber
  • Advanced Clinical Skills
  • Evidence of additional professional education to degree level equivalent
  • RCGP level 1 and 2 in alcohol and substance misuse

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding in relation to the government's offender health agenda
  • Understanding of mental health service issues within the Offender health environment, particularly in relation to the Mental Health act, the Justice System and Community Mental Health Services
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of clinical governance
  • Knowledge of CQC and statutory requirements

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Offender Health strategy and policies
  • Understanding of the NHS planning framework and commissioning process
  • In depth understanding of primary care issues, their relative implications within the NHS Plan, National Service Frameworks and modernisation agenda
