We are seeking a Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine to join Spectrum Community Health CIC at Wakefield Integrated Sexual Health Service.

This is a 10PA post (hours are negotiable). You will have transitional support from the current Consultant for the first 6/12 months. In conjunction with a non-clinical head of service, you will lead a multidisciplinary clinical team, consisting of an Associate Specialist, Specialty Doctors, Band 7 and 6 dual trained clinical nurse specialists, some of whom are nurse prescribers, with others working independently to Patient Group Directives, 2 Health Advisers and a well-established team of clinical and administrative support staff. There will be an opportunity to be the CQC Registered Manager for the service with support from other senior service managers. There is no HIV care in this post.

This post is based at Trinity Walk Clinic in Wakefield City Centre. This is a modern, purpose-built clinical facility based in the shopping centre with links to the bus and train stations, which are only a short walk away from the service. There is free designated staff carpark for Spectrum staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will possess a recognised Medical degree, MRCP and be on the specialist register of the General Medical Council. Please see job description and person specification for further details.

Wakefield is a small city in West Yorkshire, 10 miles south of Leeds. There are several schools rated outstanding by OFSTED and Wakefield also has excellent independent school provision. Wakefield has good transport links via train and is situated at the junction of the M1 and M62 motorways, with easy access to Manchester, Hull, Leeds, York and Sheffield, the North Yorkshire moors, the Yorkshire coast and the Peak District. Wakefield has a population of around 350,000, and close links to Leeds for shopping and leisure activities.

The clinic has an annual patient contact of around 37,000 episodes, encompassing both level 3 contraception and STI provision, including PrEP and PEP. Outreach provision and relationship and sex education in Wakefield's Secondary Schools and Colleges are also delivered by Spectrum on a separate contract working closely with the clinical service. The clinical service also has a key public health role managed by the Health Advising team, and a wider sexual health leadership role in partnership with our key stakeholders (Primary Care etc). There is currently no prison provision or HIV provision included in this role although the service works closely in partnership with the current HIV provider for Wakefield.

Essential

  • Medical Degree MB ChB MRCP or equivalent Full registration with GMC Licence to practice
  • Eligible for entry on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in GU Medicine
  • Eligibility to reside & work in the UK
  • Diploma of GUM
  • FSRH Diploma
  • Letter of Competence - IUD Letter of Competence - SDI
