Post-Doctorate Research Fellow – Academic Research Lead

Job summary

The postholder will be an experienced academic researcher with a credible track record of leading research bids in the health and social care field with an emphasis on health inequalities, vulnerable groups and public health. They will work closely with academic partners and key stakeholders within UKHSA and HMPPS in order to grow the portfolio of academic health research within Spectrum CIC, particularly prison health research.

Main duties of the job

  • Take a leadership role working closely with the Clinical Research Nurse to develop and implement Spectrum's research strategy
  • Undertake peer-review activity for external research funding organisations
  • Support the wider Spectrum workforce in developing research skills pertaining to ethics approval processes, grant applications, writing reports for funders and abstracts and papers for peer review literature and relevant conferences
  • Work effectively with patients, the public and healthcare staff to ensure our research meets the needs of these groups
  • Manage applications for required permissions for studies as per regulatory requirementse.g. ethics, NHS research governance and HMPPS as required
  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of academic research studies within Spectrum
  • Develop and maintain a professional and approachable manner with all colleagues and other individuals
  • Agree to develop a Personal Development Plan which will be reviewed annually through the annual appraisal programme
  • Maintain a personal/professional profile

  • First degree in psychology, social science or a health-related subject
  • Post graduate diploma or Master's degree in health research, social research, public health or an allied subject
  • PhD in any of the following; health psychology, public health, applied health research, medical sociology, or a health related subject

  • GCP training in last 2 years

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of Equality and Diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Knowledge of procedures for NHS ethical approvals
  • Knowledge of procedures for HMPPS approvals
