Operations Manager - Primary Care

Job summary

Working with our Primary Care team, you'll lead and shape services that make a real difference to patient care and community health. This role is central to ensuring high-quality, accessible services and supporting innovation across GP practices and care coordination. You'll collaborate with senior leaders, partners and commissioners to deliver safe, effective services and drive improvements. Your leadership will help teams thrive and ensure resources are used wisely to meet patient needs.

Main duties of the job

What you'll do:

  • Provide operational leadership across GP and care coordination services
  • Manage budgets, contracts and performance to meet service targets
  • Lead service transformation projects and implement policy changes
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and support partnership working
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, health and safety and data protection

What we're looking for:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience in management
  • Proven experience in operational management within healthcare
  • Strong skills in leadership, planning and problem-solving
  • Ability to analyse data and use it to improve services
  • Knowledge of primary care systems and contractual requirements

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in management role that includes advanced models of practice
  • Completion of Edward Jenner leadership or comparable, or equivalent demonstrable experience in leadership role and management competencies
  • Evidence of seeking continuous improvement through attendance at relevant and appropriate seminars, conferences etc.
  • Current NMC/HCPC or equivalent professional registration

Knowledge

Essential

  • Highly developed knowledge and understanding of contractual requirements. Reporting and payment mechanisms across multiple primary care services
  • Knowledge of operational and contractual management relating to the provision of APMS/GMS including the relevance of coding systems to support the contractual payment mechanisms.
  • Highly developed knowledge of performance management requirements and processes within primary care
  • An understanding of relevant policy legislation, drivers and their application to professional/service/organisation e.g. Health Professions Council regulations, Professional Body standards, legal duties relating to care and treatment
  • Fully understanding/application of relevant professional/practice/standards/audit within identified service area
  • Evidence of professional leadership and organisational development issues that have had a positive impact on service delivery
  • Evidence of project work that has impacted on practice
  • Knowledge of Primary care systems to support the oversight and project management of future system developments
  • Standard IT skills including the use of Microsoft applications

  • Experience of managing budgets, contracts and business intelligence data and ability to use this data to shape and model services
  • Experience of contracting and tendering process in relation to new business
  • Working knowledge of the clinical skills training and education agenda
  • Evidence of Continuing professional development relevant to the clinical specialism
  • A proven track record of a sound level influencing and negotiating with a range of stakeholders.
  • Be able to effectively lead and chair meetings
  • Able to tackle complex issues, make effective decisions and the ability to translate these into a clear set of objectives and a delivery plan autonomously
