COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

Job summary

The GP Support Unit GPSU has been established to provide strategic and operational support to general practice in Somerset. This new Communications and Engagement Manager role will lead on internal and external communications, engagement strategies, and branding. The role requires a confident communicator, content creator, and collaborator who will shape and promote GPSUs voice to stakeholders across Somerset and beyond.

Main duties of the job

  • Develop and deliver communication and engagement strategies aligned with GPSUs mission and goals.
  • Create high-quality content for newsletters, press releases, social media, and website updates.
  • Develop brand messaging and visual identity across channels.
  • Manage and grow GPSUs online presence, including website and social media platforms.
  • Support leadership with internal comms, team briefings, and change communications.
  • Act as a liaison with stakeholders, partner organisations, and Somerset practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications and campaigns.
  • Lead on media relations, including proactive media opportunities and reactive statements.
  • Organise stakeholder events, webinars, and campaigns to support engagement.
  • Ensure all communications meet accessibility, inclusivity, and data protection standards.
  • Key Requirements
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, PR or related field and evidence of continuous professional development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong digital communication and content creation skills
  • Experience of managing digital and offline communication channels
  • Ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Experience of working with the media, including press release writing
