Campsfield House: Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) is a new service and will provide complete healthcare services which has been commissioned by NHS England. This new contract will be provided by DrPA staff and a range of specialist partners who are experts in their field.

Campsfield House IRC
Is a secure facility designed to accommodate up to 160 male residents in both single and dual occupancy rooms. The centre houses a combination of time-served foreign national offenders (FNO) and immigration offenders until the Home Office arranges their removal from the UK.
Residents are not permitted to leave the centre or access the local area. Consequently, recreational, educational, healthcare, and faith-related facilities are provided entirely onsite.
Healthcare provides a range of services including primary care, mental health, substance misuse, pharmacy, dental, optometry, physiotherapy, podiatry, and audiology services delivered either by us or our specialist partners.

Job Summary:
As the psychiatrist for Campsfield IRC you will provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment for patients on the case load.
You will actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, advising on service development and provide clinical supervision.
You will work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi professional complex case reviews. You will also; Provide expert clinical advice and outstanding evidence-based care, listening and acting on patient feedback so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver trauma-informed, culturally aware, person-centred mental health services.
You will also provide oversight of and lead on development of clinical practice and the implementation of the mental health pathway.
We would like this s role to commence before the centre opens.
During this period, you will be undertaking centre induction, supporting the setup of the department, reviewing policies and procedures, developing and strengthening community healthcare links for residents with more complex presentations, and generally supporting the service to go live.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct psychiatric evaluations of the Residents including urgent assessments, risk assessments (self-harm, suicide risk) and evaluations under relevant legal frameworks.
Diagnose and manage psychiatric disorders.
Prescribe, monitor, and review psychiatric medication.
Provide both short-term and longer-term follow-up care; ensuring continuity of care for those being transferred or removed.
Work collaboratively as part of the MDT
Provide patient-centred therapeutic interventions
Be aware of and apply the IRC legal frameworks applicable to mental health, for example: Rule 35, 40, IS91, ACDT, etc and other safeguarding processes.
Participate in MDT case conferences, with interpreters, and other relevant staff.
Contribute to the design and implementation of mental health pathways, service development, protocols, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with NHS, legal, and detention facility governance requirements.
Support training and supervision for junior healthcare staff in recognising and managing mental health conditions.
Be available for crisis interventions / emergency psychiatric input within the centre.
Working Environment & Conditions
Residents are not free to leave; security considerations will be integral.
You will be working with Residents who may have experienced trauma, torture, loss, uncertain legal status, possibly with language/cultural barriers.
Frequent need to work with interpreters.
Likely to involve working under pressure, with high emotional burden.
Need to comply with safeguarding, confidentiality, and legal/ethical requirements related to detention, immigration law.
Regular contact with external bodies as needed (e.g. external mental health services if referrals are made; legal / Home Office etc.)
Essential Qualifications:
Registered professional with current registration (GMC) and license to practice in the UK
Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983
Evidence of Continued Professional Development
Understanding of the complexities of MDT and multi-agency working
Up to date knowledge in adult psychiatry, PD, addiction and neurodiversity
Excellent communication skills with patients to understand their needs
Strong knowledge of UK mental health legislation, safeguarding, and the special legal issues facing immigration detention.
Experience prescribing psychiatric medication safely and monitoring outcomes.

This post will require the holder to undertake and successfully complete the Counter Terrorism Clearance (CTC) process.
