Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Respiratory Service Lead to oversee the safe, effective and high-quality delivery of our Respiratory Diagnostic Services.

The post holder will play a key leadership role within the respiratory service, with responsibility for day-to-day clinical leadership, line management of Respiratory Assistants, quality assurance, training oversight, and peer review activities. The role will ensure that clinical standards are maintained, staff are supported and developed, and services continue to meet national guidance and internal governance requirements.

This role is ideal for a senior respiratory physiologist or equivalent professional looking to step into a service leadership position with clear responsibility and influence.

Main duties of the job

Service leadership and delivery

  • Provide operational and clinical leadership for Respiratory Diagnostic Services across sites.
  • Ensure services are delivered safely, effectively and in line with national standards, internal policies and contractual requirements.

Line management and staff support

  • Hold line management responsibility for Respiratory Assistants and designated clinical staff.
  • Support staff wellbeing, competence and professional development within the service.

Training and competency oversight

  • Oversee the respiratory training programme, including induction, competency sign-off and ongoing development.
  • Maintain accurate training and competency records to support clinical governance and assurance.

Quality assurance and clinical governance

  • Lead local respiratory QA processes, audits and clinical reviews.
  • Participate in peer review processes and facilitate learning from audit findings, incidents and near-misses.
  • Support escalation of clinical or quality concerns through appropriate governance routes.

Reporting and assurance

  • Provide regular service-level reporting on activity, quality and performance.
  • Contribute respiratory-specific input into wider clinical governance reporting when required.

Professional practice

  • Maintain relevant professional registration, CPD and clinical competence where applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical, operational and governance colleagues to support continuous improvement.

About us

The Respiratory Service Lead will work within the organisations established clinical and operational governance framework. They will be supported by Ultracardiac's wider operational and clinical leadership teams.

The post holder will be responsible for service-level oversight of Respiratory Diagnostics, ensuring that quality, safety and performance expectations are met within their area of responsibility. They will be accountable for line management of Respiratory Assistants, oversight of training and competency processes, and the delivery of local quality assurance and peer review activities.

This includes overseeing rota cover, supporting performance management, and ensuring staff are appropriately trained, competent and supported in their roles.
