Reporting to the Lead Dispensary & Stores Pharmacy Technician, the post holder will support the delivery of the Cleveland Clinic London (CCL) Medicines Optimisation mission of providing safe, effective, high quality and efficient pharmaceutical care by optimising medicines safety and patient outcomes.The Pharmacy Technician will support the pharmacy team with our mission and strategic objectives to provide a coordinated pharmaceutical service which is broad-based, cost-effective and efficient.
Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Technician will assist in achieving the vision of harnessing the best of global and UK clinical practice and innovation to provide holistic pharmaceutical care through the CCL Medicines Optimization strategic objectives.
- Optimization of medicines safety and patient outcomes through provision of excellent pharmaceutical care.
- Provision of an innovative, technologically driven 24/7 medicines management service through automation, robotics and closed loop medicines administration.
- Establishment of a culture of continuous workforce training and development to cultivate an engaged, motivated and highly skilled team.

Job responsibilities
- Maintain and develop high quality, consistent, patient-focused pharmacy services in conjunction with clinical and patient services staff.
- Participate in the efficient day to day running of the dispensary and assisting the lead/senior technician/ Pharmacist when required.
- Prepare labels using the pharmacy computer system and correctly assemble prescriptions, ensuring each item is accurately dispensed and in the correct packaging, according to standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Organise the timely supply of out-of-stock medication to patients, prioritising and delegating this to other pharmacy team members when necessary.
- Communicate any delays in supply to the appropriate person.
- Counsel patients on the use of their dispensed medications, offering advice and answering any queries.
- Provide information and advice to nursing and medical staff on all aspects of drug usage and availability.
- Receive deliveries from suppliers and manufacturers, checking delivery accuracy against paperwork and querying discrepancies and damaged stock with supplier/senior staff.
- Order stock from supplies and manufacturers in accordance with the ordering procedures.
- Securely store stock into the allocated areas, performing daily stock counts and ensuring rotation of stock and stock accuracy.
- Query stock discrepancies with a senior staff member.
- Follow established procedures and maintain all relevant records according to departmental and legal requirements.
- Perform other relevant duties as requested by the senior pharmacy members.
- Participate in the 24/7 pharmacy services roster.
- Assist in the training and supervision of pharmacy staff as required.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and organised work area.
- Assist in the collection of performance, workload, and audit data.
- Obtain if appropriate following suitable experience Accredited Checking Technician status and perform a final accuracy check of prescriptions in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Identify risk and report incidents.
- Participate in and contribute to departmental meetings to maintain and develop the pharmaceutical service, contributing to the development of new procedures as required.
- Collaborate effectively with the rest of the Pharmacy Team and non-pharmacy Caregivers in the provision of a safe, effective, high quality and efficient service.
- Practice within own competence and adhere to the standards of the General Pharmaceutical Council and Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
- Lead by example and uphold standards, expectations and behaviours of a professional and Cleveland Clinic just culture.
