Job summary

We are proud to work in continued partnership with the NHS and now provide the Adult Orthotic service for West Sussex, supporting clinics across Crawley, Horsham, and Bognor Regis.

We have a brand new and exciting opportunity for an Orthotist to support our clinics across the region. This role can be offered on a part time or full-time basis.

This is an exciting, autonomous role with plenty of scope for growth and development. Fully supported by our experienced team at our Brighton.

***There is also scope for dual practicing opportunities for any interested candidates ***

The role:

As an Orthotist you will provide a high standard of Clinical Orthotic Care to all patients and assist in the day to day running of the service.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting a caseload of clients with a wide range of complex conditions and recommending the best course of intervention.
  • Effectively communicating with informed patient consent, discussing the reasons for the prescription.
  • Providing advice and support as necessary to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of condition.
  • Assessing, measuring, casting, fitting, suppling, reviewing, and adjusting orthoses as required.
  • Maintaining appropriate clinical notes and records.
  • Providing training in the field of Orthotics at all levels

To provide a high standard of Clinical Orthotic Care to all patients, to assist in the day to day running of the service. In addition to provide support any students and junior members of the team and generally to support the company in all aspects of contracting services

Key Responsibilities and Activities

People Management

To follow the Blatchford employment policies and procedures to actively support the development of the more junior orthotic team through mentoring, coaching, and training.

Operational

To provide professional Orthotic Services to a variety of customers as directed by the Clinical & Contract Manager or equivalent/company.

Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form prognoses in a wide range of complex conditions and recommend the best course of intervention.

Undertake comprehensive examination and assessment of clients of all ages, including those with a complex presentation, (complex physical, cognitive, language, sensory disability), using investigative and analytical skills, and to formulate individualised management plans, using clinical reasoning, and utilising a wide range of Orthotic options to formulate a specialised programme of care.

Demonstrate detailed understanding of the clients presented pathology together with specialist knowledge of indications and contra-indications in relation to their clinical condition and orthotic treatment; where appropriate, discuss with the clinical team appropriate clinical intervention.

Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of clients, and to organise this effectively and efficiently regarding clinical priorities, use of time and awareness of budgetary constraints.

Develop a professional relationship with the client and/or carer for effective communication; with informed patient consent, discussing the reasons for the prescription. Provide counselling, advice, and support as necessary to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of condition.

To assess, measure, cast, fit, supply, review and adjust orthoses as required.

To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team at all levels to ensure the most appropriate and effective treatment for patients.

To develop a good relationship with all Patients, Customers and Colleagues.

To work within the parameters of always accepted best practice.

To maintain appropriate clinical notes and records.

To train others in the field of Orthotics at all levels, including professional, medical, Professions Allied to Medicine (PAMs), paramedical, technical, and administrative staff.

To take part in clinical audit.

To be aware of and meet the needs at all times of Blatchford procedures, including Health and Safety.

To be aware of and meet the needs of clinical and information governance.

Reporting

To provide all relevant documentation and technical information as required

To maintain an up to date Continuing Professional Development Portfolio and continually update yourself with developments in the field of Orthotics.
