Job summary

The Partners at Elm Hayes Surgery are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic GP to join the Clinical Team. We would ideally like 4 sessions per week but can be flexible to suit. We have a clinical team of 4 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GP Associates, a strong and supportive Nursing, Management and Administrative team. Elm Hayes Surgery is part of Three Valleys Health Primary Care Network and have an ARRS staff team including Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Social Prescribers, Care Co-ordinators and General Practice Assistants. The PCN also have a Home Visiting Service operated by Emergency Care Practitoners.

We are a supportive, friendly practice and our work environment offers flexibility in working patters, opportunity for growth, daily coffee meetings, regular clinical and administrative meetings and social events.

We use Systm1 as a clinical system and administratively use Clarity Teamnet as a surgery intranet. We are a part dispensing practice and have an onsite community pharmacy. Part of our building hosts a complementary therapy suite used by Osteopaths, Early Pregnancy Scanning, Holistic Therapists and we also host service users from other NHS organisations such as Audiology, Diabetic Retinal Screening, Community Paediatricians and a Dermatology Service.

Main duties of the job

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, online consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home (although we also have a home visiting service), checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standard
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

About us

Elm Hayes Surgery is based in Paulton near Bath (approx 12 miles south) in a lovely semi rural setting on the edge of the Mendip Hills close to the Chew Valley. It offers easy commuting from Bath and Bristol and has relatively low levels of deprivation. The practice is in a purpose built Health Centre (2009) with modern consulting rooms, meeting and training rooms and staff rest room. We have a patient population of 9100 which is now stable following a large increase as a result of a housing development in the village. Our opening hours are 8.00 - 18.30 and some flexibility of working pattern would be considered.

We are looking to recruit an motivated, enthusiastic, forward thinking GP to complement our team and help provide safe, effective services to our patient population.

We have a traditional General Practice ethos that is patient-centred with a strong focus on continuity of care and we embrace new technologies which improve efficiency and quality of care.

We would be happy to recruit a newly qualified or experienced GP but our ideal is someone who will fit into our existing practice team.

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, online consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
