Job summary
Following the appointment of the
National Clinical Executive Director at the beginning of this year and the
development of the 2024/25 clinical and quality development plan (aligned to
the organisation business plan) there is a need to create capacity within a
centralised team in the clinical directorate.
The new roles will establish a clear
career pathway for the clinical workforce currently employed by NHS SC and
create the leadership to operationalise the clinical priorities and ambitions
to have effective clinical leadership across all parts of the business.
The central clinical team posts
strengthen and complement the existing experienced professional workforce
within the directorates providing additional senior leadership.
We are creating two new leadership roles
(focused on development and operational oversight and clinical learning and
professional standards). Over time these posts will be supported with
additional roles including the development of clinical fellow secondment roles
(focusing on specialist areas of practice e.g. maternity, health care
inequalities, sustainability and clinical simulation training). Alongside a new
medical lead role.
Main duties of the job
Every day you will
Be responsible for leading and providing visible leadership within
the directorate and across the organisation. You will play a leading role in bringing
the clinical community together across the organisation. Working in collaboration
with the health care professional leaders across NHS Supply Chain to deliver
existing clinical priorities and those within the forthcoming new clinical and
quality strategy.
Work closely with the clinical executive director to ensure that
there is a clinical and quality voice and profile in the achievement of the NHS
Supply Chain strategy and target operating model. A key responsibility will be
the development of the patient and carer engagement plan which will form a key
part of the overarching clinical and quality strategy. An important part of the

supporting them to engage with NHS SC priorities supporting the NHS to deliver high
quality care to patients and their families.

- A significant level of clinical experience within the care delivery landscape, with a significant amount of experience at national level and is a registered healthcare professional e.g. NMC, HCPC

- Ability to Leader and provide direction using influencing and negotiating to achieve the clinical and quality vision and priorities
- Effective communication and presentation skills and to motivate others to commit to the organisation's clinical priorities and strategy.
- Strong organisational capability to meet the current and emerging needs of a significant directorate whilst demonstrating the ability to work across different parts of an organisation or system.
- Have experience and skills to lead the development and implementation of a new clinical strategy for a significant area of responsibility. Demonstrating where you have anticipated complex issues, challenges, and opportunities and managed integration with a wider corporate/health care provider strategy.
- Held responsibility for the management and implementation of a significant element of quality change/quality improvement initiatives or continuous operational improvements to support the creation of an environment that ensures excellent patient experience, patient safety, and high-quality patient outcomes.
- Have experience of Performance Management and the management and reporting on the performance of a substantial, diverse team set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and held individuals accountable for achieving them; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives.
