Main duties of the job

We are looking for a skilled Cardiothoracic Scrub Nurse to become an integral part of our highly specialized surgical team. In this vital role, you will provide expert assistance during complex cardiothoracic procedures, ensuring patient safety and supporting the surgical team throughout each operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical environment, ensuring all necessary instruments and equipment are available and in perfect working order.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, ensuring a seamless flow of instruments and supplies throughout the procedure.
  • Monitor and manage sterile technique, preventing contamination and maintaining the highest standards of infection control.
  • Provide critical support during emergencies and respond swiftly to changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with anaesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver top-quality perioperative care.

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Cardiothoracic Scrub Nurse to join our specialized surgical team. You will play a key role in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing complex cardiothoracic surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve repairs/replacements, and other intricate cardiac and thoracic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain a sterile operating environment, ensuring all instruments, sutures, and equipment are properly set up and available.
  • Assist the surgeon by anticipating their needs and providing instruments and materials during the surgery.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control standards and sterile techniques to minimize the risk of contamination.
  • Monitor the patients condition and communicate any changes to the surgical team in real-time.
  • Collaborate closely with the anesthetist, surgeons, and other perioperative staff to ensure seamless patient care throughout the procedure.
  • Manage equipment before, during, and after surgery, ensuring all tools are accounted for and properly sterilized post-procedure.
  • Document the surgical procedure and ensure accurate recording of all relevant details.
  • Participate in the post-operative care of the patient, including transferring to recovery and providing support as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with valid NMC registration.
  • Previous experience in cardiothoracic surgery is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of sterile techniques and infection control.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
