Job summary
At YorMed Ambulance Service our Ambulance Care Assistants work together as a Team providing safe, caring and secure transport for patients in non-emergency situations on our Patient Transport Service's.
You will provide our Patients with an outstanding service, ensuring they are as comfortable as possible during their Journeys in our Ambulances.
You must be of a kind, caring and compassionate nature and able to put our Patients at ease at all times. They are our Priority.
Main duties of the job
Our Ambulance Care Assistants are responsible for:
- Collecting Patients from their Homes
- Assisting them as much as possible throughout their journey's
- Driving the Patients to pre-arranged hospital or clinic appointments
- Transferring patients from one hospital to another
- Making sure the Patients are secure and always cared for
You must have excellent driving skills and a good understanding of the Highway Code as well as the ability to read Maps and some knowledge of the areas you will be covering.
Our Patients come from all walks of life, and it is therefore, imperative that you have some understanding of the complexities of each individual whether they are sick, elderly, disabled or vulnerable.
You will be offered some excellent support allowing you to complete Mandatory Training to cover different areas such as: Safeguarding, data protection. First Aid etc. that form part of your Job Role.

YorMed Ambulance Service is looking for hard working individuals with caring and compassionate natures to join our friendly team of Ambulance Care Assistants.
You should have a warm, outgoing and caring personality with excellent spoken and written communication skills.
No two days are ever the same therefore you must be able to demonstrate a flexible, reliable and committed approach to working variable hours / shifts which will include evenings and weekends.
You will be expected to have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above or equivalents or previous experience in a caring capacity and you must hold a valid Full UK Drivers Licence.
You will be responsible for looking after your passengers / patients and because many of them have poor health, you will also need to be able to demonstrate life-saving skills in case of an emergency arising.
As well as driving patients to and from appointments, it will be your responsibility to ensure the patients are safe and comfortable during their journey's. You will be lifting and helping patients in and out of the Ambulances. You will be using lifting equipment and may be carrying more than one patient at a time.
There will also be the occasion when you will be working alone driving one of our standard vehicles to transport just one or two people at a time.
You will need to complete an initial induction which will cover a series of mandatory training modules and hands on training courses. This will give you the skills and knowledge you'll need to perform the job role to the best of your ability.
You'll be supported from day one by our hardworking teams which include HR, Emergency Ambulance Care Assistants, Ambulance Care Assistants and Paramedics.
