The diabetes specialist nurse will train staff quarterly, support Pinehill, PAC, Wards, and Theatres with diabetes-related patient concerns, and provide expert advice on incidents under review per PSIRF. The role includes advising on relevant updates to promote best practices.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver expert diabetes assessment for surgical patients at Pinehill's pre-assessment clinic, wards, and theatre recovery.
- Support diabetes optimisation before surgery, interpret HbA1c results, and advise on management.
- Provide specialist advice on insulin and non-insulin diabetes medications.
- Collaborate with pharmacy for medication reconciliation.
- Educate on diabetes management around surgery.
- Work with surgeons, anaesthetists, ward teams, and pharmacy.
- Ensure safe and timely discharge planning.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Registered Nurse (NMC).
- Post-registration experience in diabetes or acute care.
- Strong understanding of insulin therapy and diabetes medications.
- Excellent communication and teaching skills.
