Main duties of the job

A commitment to the development of high-quality evidence based acute care is essential, combined with personal drive, enthusiasm, creativity and resilience. The role is ideal for a senior clinical leader aspiring to a role as Deputy Head of Clinical Services (Deputy Matron). You will be working in collaboration with the Head of Clinical Services (Matron), to assist in driving sustainable excellence in safety and quality of care and services. The role of the Deputy Head of Clinical Services will be to support the Heads of Departments in ensuring the day-to-day operational management of the clinical services are line with best practice. Therefore, it is a requirement that you are a strong leader working in a senior clinical role as you will be required to problem solve and provide direction enabling services to run safely and effectively which may on occasion require you to step in clinically. Communication is a key part of this role as you will be required to influence and change/challenge practices at all levels. You will be responsible for assisting in the progression of meaningful changes to patient pathways and ensuring they are embedded into the service. The Deputy HOC will act as a lead for all specialities, providing expert advice to nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary teams and taking on the duties of the Head of Clinical Services in their absence.
