Job summary

This is a key role supporting patients through their post-operative recovery following elective and complex orthopaedic and spinal procedures. You will work closely with nurses, physiotherapists and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive safe and attentive care throughout their stay.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients undergoing elective and complex orthopaedic and spinal procedures. They will assist with personal care, patient mobility, nutrition, hygiene, and post-operative recovery, while maintaining a safe and clean environment in line with infection prevention standards. The role requires a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a busy clinical team to ensure patients receive safe, person-centred care at all times.

About the Role This is a key role supporting patients through their post-operative recovery following elective and complex orthopaedic and spinal procedures.   • Support patients with personal care, hygiene, nutrition, and mobility
  • Assist patients with movement and rehabilitation following surgery
  • Carry out routine observations and report concerns promptly
  • Maintain a clean and well organised ward environment
  • Support patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Uphold dignity, safety, and confidentiality at all times
  • Work effectively with the nursing team to support smooth ward operations
  • Skills and Experience:
  • Experience as a Healthcare Assistant in an acute surgical ward
  • Confident supporting patients with post-operative needs
  • Calm, caring, and professional in all interactions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Organised and reliable within a busy clinical ward
  • Willing to develop skills in orthopaedic and spinal care
