The Quality Manager will play a key part in ensuring that our governance processes remain robust, standards are consistently met and patient safety remains at the forefront of everything we do. About the Role We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join us as Quality Manager for Medical and Surgical Care. This is a senior Band 7 role responsible for providing independent assurance that medical and surgical services are delivering safe, effective and high-quality care across inpatient wards, day case and pre-assessment services, excluding Theatres and Endoscopy. Working in partnership with the Head of Nursing Operations and Ward Managers, you will provide strategic oversight of quality and patient safety, using governance intelligence, audits, incidents, complaints and patient experience data to identify risks, highlight variation and drive improvement. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience supporting quality assurance or governance within inpatient surgical wards, either in the NHS or independent healthcare. You will lead on strengthening nursing governance through the development and review of policies and SOPs, oversight of accreditation programmes including Pathway to Excellence and Ward Accreditation, and support serious incident investigations in line with PSIRF principles. Through clear reporting and professional influence, you will help ensure strong accountability for quality across services. Key Duties
Analyse audits, incidents, complaints and patient experience data to identify risks and drive measurable improvements in quality and safetyConduct independent assurance reviews across medical and surgical services to ensure compliance with CQC standards and internal governance frameworksLead the development and review of nursing policies and SOPs to strengthen consistency, safety and evidence-based practiceOversee accreditation programmes including Pathway to Excellence and Ward Accreditation to maintain high standards of careFacilitate serious incident investigations using PSIRF principles to promote learning, accountability and sustainable changeDevelop and present clear quality dashboards and reports to provide assurance to senior leaders and committeesIdentify gaps in practice and implement structured quality improvement methodologies to close those gaps and improve patient outcomesWork collaboratively with clinical, operational and corporate teams to embed a culture of continuous improvementProvide expert nursing governance advice to support the Chief Nurse and strengthen corporate assurance across medical and surgical service. The Ideal Candidate You are an experienced Registered Nurse with strong clinical credibility in medical or surgical services and a clear commitment to improving standards. You are confident analysing complex information and translating governance requirements into practical improvements at ward level. You are proactive, solutions focused and prepared to challenge constructively where standards are not met. You are comfortable presenting to senior leaders, writing clear reports and influencing across professional boundaries. Above all, you are committed to reducing avoidable harm and ensuring patients consistently receive safe, effective and compassionate care. Key Requirements
Active NMC registration as a Registered NurseMinimum 5 years post registration clinical experience within medical or surgical servicesExperience working at Band 6 level or above, or equivalent senior clinical or governance role, with responsibility for quality assurance, governance or quality improvementExperience supporting or leading quality assurance, governance or quality improvement within inpatient surgical wards, in either the NHS or private healthcareStrong understanding of clinical governance, audit, risk management and quality improvementExperience supporting or leading incident investigations and developing action plansExperience working within UK healthcare governance frameworks, including CQC standards and regulatory complianceExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentationsStrong analytical skills and confidence working with dataAbility to work independently, influence senior stakeholders and challenge constructively If you are an experienced nurse leader with governance expertise and the confidence to influence quality at organisational level, we welcome your application.
