Job summary
As a Healthcare Assistant in the Day Surgery Unit, you will play a key role in supporting patients through their day case pathway, from admission to discharge. Using your previous acute ward experience, you will work closely with the nursing and medical teams to deliver safe, efficient and compassionate care in a fast paced hospital environment, helping to ensure a smooth and positive experience for every patient.
Main duties of the job
You will support registered nurses and consultants in the delivery of safe, high quality care for patients attending the Day Surgery Unit, assisting with patient preparation, recovery and discharge. The role includes undertaking clinical observations, supporting routine procedures such as ECGs, urinalysis, phlebotomy and wound care once trained and competent, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring high standards of infection prevention and control. You will act as a chaperone when required, provide reassurance and practical support to patients throughout their journey, assist with admissions and transfers, and contribute to the smooth running of the unit through effective stock control, equipment preparation and maintaining a safe, well organised clinical environment.

The unit is designed to support a safe and efficient patient journey, from admission to discharge, with a strong focus on comfort, dignity, and recovery. The Role: We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Band 3 Healthcare Assistant with previous acute hospital ward experience to join our Day Surgery Ward. This role is well suited to HCAs who have already worked within a fast paced inpatient setting and are comfortable supporting patient care throughout admission, treatment and discharge. Your existing experience within an acute ward environment will enable you to confidently support the nursing and medical teams and contribute positively to the smooth running of the unit.
