Job summary

The post-holder works in close collaboration with Consultants, Referrers and Radiologists to ensure imaging quality is consistently aligned with best practice and emerging clinical developments. They also hold responsibility for driving innovation and service growth, evaluating and implementing new technologies, techniques and pathways to enhance service performance and support the Clinic's long-term strategic objectives.

Main duties of the job

The MRI Service Manager supports the Head of Operations in delivering an efficient, high-quality MRI service across all sites. The post-holder contributes to departmental development, drives the introduction of new services and ensures the MRI service operates at the highest clinical and operational standards. This role provides day-to-day leadership to the MRI team, maintaining exemplary standards of patient care, safety and service delivery. The post-holder is responsible for people performance across the MRI service, ensuring that staff are supported, developed and held to high professional and behavioural standards. They actively promote a positive working culture, fostering accountability, continuous improvement and the ongoing development of staff skills and capabilities.

The role We are looking for an experienced MRI professional with strong operational and people leadership skills, who can provide clear direction and stability to the MRI service. You will be someone who leads from the front, sets high standards and holds the team to account while maintaining a supportive and professional working environment. You will bring significant post qualification MRI experience, including 3T, and a solid understanding of MRI safety, governance and quality assurance. You will be confident managing a multidisciplinary team, leading service improvement and supporting the introduction of new technologies and ways of working. Strong communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential, as is a clear commitment to patient focused care and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the MRI service, maintaining excellence in patient care, MRI safety, and service delivery, and ensuring achievement of all departmental KPIs.
  • Manage and develop the MRI workforce through effective supervision, appraisal, performance management and staff engagement.
  • Ensure safe staffing levels, effective rota management and the appropriate skill mix, while actively managing agency usage and supporting cost effective service delivery
  • Hold responsibility for quality assurance, clinical audit, risk management and the delivery of an MRI Quality Improvement Plan
  • Support service development through the evaluation and implementation of new equipment, techniques and clinical pathways, including advanced MRI services
  • Contribute to business case development, support recruitment and retention strategies, and ensure full compliance with all relevant policies, governance frameworks and professional standards
  • Key requirements
  • Registered Radiographer with HCPC registration.
  • Significant post qualification experience in MRI, including experience working with 3T systems.
  • Previous experience leading or managing an MRI service or team.
  • Strong knowledge of MRI safety, governance and quality standards.
  • Experience managing staff rotas, skill mix and service delivery.
  • Ability to lead service improvement and support the introduction of new MRI techniques or pathways.
  • Clear, confident communicator with a professional leadership approach and a strong focus on patient care.
