Job summary

This is a full time Band 5 Staff Nurse role within the Day Surgery Unit at The London Clinic, providing high quality nursing care to patients undergoing day case and short stay surgical procedures. The post offers the opportunity to work across both ward based and Walk In Walk Out pathways in a structured, well supported environment, caring for general surgical and ophthalmic patients from admission through to safe discharge.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high quality, person centred nursing care to patients within the Day Surgery Unit, supporting them from admission through to discharge. This includes comprehensive patient assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of care in line with The London Clinic standards and the NMC Code. The role involves administering medications including intravenous therapies, maintaining accurate and confidential clinical documentation, and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient pathways. The post holder will contribute to discharge planning, infection prevention, safeguarding and patient safety, and will be expected to support junior staff and students, acting as a positive role model within the team.

The Role We are seeking an experienced and motivated Staff Nurse to join our Day Surgery Unit at The London Clinic. This role involves delivering high quality, person centred nursing care to patients undergoing day case and short stay surgical procedures, supporting them from admission through to safe discharge. You will work across both the Day Surgery Ward and the Walk In Walk Out pathway, caring for general surgical and ophthalmic patients in a fast paced but well supported environment. The role requires flexibility, strong clinical judgement and a commitment to excellent patient experience. You will be expected to work one late or long day shift per week until 21.30 to support evening day case theatre lists. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective and evidence-based nursing care in line with The London Clinic standards
  • Act as the named nurse, coordinating individualised care plans within a multidisciplinary team
  • Assess, monitor and evaluate patients from admission to discharge
  • Administer medications including intravenous medicines in line with policy
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical documentation
  • Take charge of the ward in the absence of senior staff when required
  • Support patient discharge planning to ensure safe and appropriate outcomes
  • Promote infection prevention, safeguarding and patient safety at all times
  • Act as a role model to junior staff and students, supporting learning and development
  • Participate in audits, service improvement and departmental meetings
  • About You You will be a registered Nurse with a current NMC PIN and experience working in an acute surgical or day care setting. You will be confident caring for pre and post-operative patients and able to manage competing priorities in a busy clinical environment. Essential criteria
