Job summary

This role offers the opportunity to work as part of our dedicated Oncology Inpatient team within the Duchess of Devonshire Wing. As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care to adults receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy and palliative treatments. You will play a key role in supporting patients and their families throughout their treatment journey while developing your clinical expertise in a specialist oncology setting.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality compassionate and safe nursing care to adult inpatients with cancer. Patients may be receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, supportive symptom management, or end-of-life care. You will work as part of a skilled and dedicated multidisciplinary team to asses, plan, deliver, and evaluate individualised care plans that support the unique needs of oncology patients and their families. This role requires empathy, good communication, clinical competence and a commitment to professional development.

The Role: We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Oncology Inpatient team within the Duchess of Devonshire Wing. As a Band 5 Staff Nurse, you will care for adult oncology inpatients receiving a range of treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and palliative care. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, individualised care that meets the complex needs of patients and their families. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment
  • Monitor and manage treatment-related symptoms and side effects
  • Contribute to the assessment, planning and evaluation of care plans
  • Work under supervision of SACT-trained nurses and progress towards achieving SACT competency
  • Support patients and families with empathy, professionalism and clear communication
  • Maintain the highest standards of infection prevention and control
  • Participate in audits, reflective practice, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Skills and Experience
  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration
  • Previous experience within an acute oncology or surgical ward environment is essential
  • Competent in IV administration or willingness to complete training
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A strong interest in oncology and commitment to continued learning and professional development
