Job title: Pre-Assessment Staff Nurse (Band 5) Salary: £37,452 - £47,279 Location: The London Clinic, 20 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW Job Type: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday The Role The Pre-Assessment Department plays a vital role in ensuring that every patient is fully prepared and medically optimised prior to surgery. Our service supports a broad range of surgical specialities including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Plastics, and ENT. The team works closely with Consultants and clinical colleagues to identify potential health concerns early, streamline the surgical pathway and enhance patient safety and experience. Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including detailed patient histories and clinical screeningRequest and interpret pre-operative investigations, escalating abnormal results where requiredLiaise effectively with Consultants, Anaesthetists, and other clinical teams to ensure continuity of careProvide clear and reassuring information to patients and their families to support informed consentMaintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with NMC standards and Clinic policiesContribute to quality improvement, clinical audits, and ongoing service development initiatives Skills and Experience:
Registered Nurse (NMC)Minimum 2 years' post-registration experience in a surgical settingStrong understanding of pre-operative assessment processes and patient pathwaysCompetent in ECG and phlebotomy or willingness to undertake trainingExcellent clinical judgement and ability to work autonomouslyStrong communication, organisational and IT skillsCommitment to providing safe, evidence-based, and compassionate careDesirable: Previous experience in pre-assessment or pre-operative care and familiarity with interpreting blood results and ECGs.
