Senior Biomedical Scientist - Immunology

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our Biochemistry and Immunology team. This role is based at The London Clinic in Central London, W1G 7JL with a competitive salary range on offer, dependent on skills and experience.

The Blood Sciences laboratory is located in a purpose-designed laboratory equipped with multiple instruments including the Stratec Gemini, HOB BioCLIA, Phadia 250, Sebia Hydrasys and Thermofisher Binding Site Optilite. Also located within Pathology, Immunology also performs IF slide preparation on the Biosystems iPRO, Fluorescent Microscopy (Euroimmun Eurostar II) as well as allergy testing using the ALEX2 Allergy Explorer

Job Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic, visionary Senior Biomedical Scientist (Band 7) to join our dynamic and thriving Biochemistry and Immunology team which part of Blood Sciences. As a Senior Biomedical Scientist, you will work closely with the Immunology consultant and the Biochemistry and Immunology Laboratory Manager to provide a, patient focussed, dynamic and efficient Immunology service. You should be an effective leader, have significant Immunology knowledge and experience, and have a good track record of managing staff and laboratory resources. You must be able to demonstrate achievement of targets, a high attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

In this role you will work alongside Blood Sciences colleagues and leaders to cultivate and maintain a culture in which staff are valued, included and supported to continuously improve in delivering a high-quality service.

  • Job Type: This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week.
  • Shifts: 37.5 hours per week, shifts between 08:00 - 20:00 hrs Mon - Friday in line with the departmental roster.
  • Salary: £53,931 - £64,710 Inclusive per annum dependant on skills and experience.

    Key Duties

  • Responsible for the Immunology section and team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical laboratory assistant
  • Responsible for undertaking routine analytical work and the day-to-day organisation and maintenance of work flow as well as appropriate monitoring of performance of technical and scientific tasks
  • Developing and implementing systems and procedures to enable the service to run effectively and ensuring compliance with Departmental policies, legal and accreditation standards including Quality Management System, Health and safety, UKAS Standards, Resource Management
  • Preparation of performance and quality reports
  • Management of incidents
  • Training and maintenance of team competences
  • Supporting team cohesion through empathy, collaboration and inclusion
  • Deputising for the Laboratory Manager as needed
  • Skills & Experience
  • HCPC registration and extensive theoretical/scientific knowledge and experience in Immunology
  • Application of ISO 15189 UKAS standards and quality management systems
  • Preparation and reading of Immunofluorescence slides
  • Good understanding and experience of laboratory Audit procedures
  • Implementation of Health and safety procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team leadership ability
