Band 5 Pharmacy Dispensary Technician

Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit a Band 5 Pharmacy Dispensary Technician to support the day-to-day operations of the dispensary. The postholder will work closely with the Deputy Dispensary Manager and Dispensary Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality dispensing services. They will act as a point of contact for rotational staff and students, contribute to audits and service improvement initiatives, and enhance the supervision and training capacity within the team.

Main duties of the job

* Assist in the daily running of the dispensary, ensuring timely and accurate dispensing of medicines. * Support the implementation of standard operating procedures and ensure adherence. * Support the Deputy Dispensary Manager and Dispensary Manager in maintaining service standards and workflow. * Ensure compliance with legal, professional, and organisational standards in all aspects of dispensary practice. * Participate in stock management, including ordering, expiry date checks, and stock rotation. * Support and drive service KPI targets. * Act as a point of contact for rotational pharmacy technicians and student technicians. * Provide supervision, guidance, and mentorship to junior staff and students. * Support the induction and training of new dispensary staff. * Contribute to the development of a positive and supportive learning environment. * Participate in dispensary audits and contribute to service improvement initiatives. * Assist in the monitoring and reporting of dispensing errors and near misses. * Promote a culture of continuous improvement and patient safety. * Support the development and implementation of procurement policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols. * Liaise effectively with pharmacy colleagues, clinical teams, and other departments to support patient care.

  • Undertake Accredited Checking Technician activity in the dispensary on a regular basis in order to support the department and maintain own competence.
  • Provide input into ad hoc projects and initiatives as required by the department.
  • Support quality initiatives that enhance patient experience and improve collaboration between pharmacy, clinical teams, and other departments.
  • Participate in the annual stock take and contribute to inventory accuracy.
  • Be flexible and work outside core hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade or as directed by the Chief Pharmacist.
  • Skills and Experience Qualifications - Essential:
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent accredited qualification.
