Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work as a Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist delivering an expert, high-quality service to patients diagnosed with breast cancer at The London Clinic. The role covers all stages of the breast cancer pathway, from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship to palliative care where appropriate. The post-holder will ensure that patients receive holistic, evidence-based care, supported by the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), in line with national guidance and TLC's commitment to excellence. This will be achieved through expert clinical practice, management of a complex patient caseload, education, audit, research, and active participation in service development.

As a Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be at the heart of our breast cancer service, guiding patients through every stage of their journey with expertise, compassion, and care. No two days will be the same. You will work closely with our leading consultants and multidisciplinary teams, provide specialist support from diagnosis through to treatment and survivorship, and be a trusted point of contact during what can be the most challenging time in a person's life. You will have the autonomy to run nurse-led clinics, contribute to service development, and share your expertise with colleagues while being fully supported to develop your own skills.   • Act as the primary specialist nurse for patients diagnosed with breast cancer, providing expert clinical care, education, and holistic support.
  • Lead nurse-led services including follow-up clinics, survivorship programmes, and rapid access pathways.
  • Conduct specialist assessments and develop personalised care plans.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative counselling, prosthesis fittings, and body image support.
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, ensuring coordinated care.
  • Support service development through research, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and support junior nurses, students, and new CNS colleagues.
  • Skills and Experience
  • NMC Registered Nurse (Adult).
  • Minimum 5 years post-registration experience, with at least 2 years in breast cancer or oncology nursing.
  • First-level specialist breast care qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in oncology or breast care nursing.
  • Advanced communication skills, with the ability to provide sensitive and complex information to patients and families.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and managing complex patient cases.
  • Desirable:
  • Independent/Non-Medical Prescribing qualification.
  • MSc or working towards in a relevant field.
  • Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
