Job responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Technician- Workforce Development and Medicines Management Technician, Band 7 to join our Pharmacy Team at The London Clinic. The London Clinic's Pharmacy Department are a close-knit team with around 45 staff members.

The Pharmacy department comprises of 9 core services: On Call, Dispensary Services, Distribution and Top Up Service, Procurement, Clinical Ward Pharmacy Services, Provision of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), Aseptic/Technical Services, Clinical Governance and Education and Training. We have extensive oncology services, including a purpose-built chemotherapy aseptic compounding suite. As well as an automated medication dispensing system which supports decentralised medicine management in numerous wards.

Job Description

The Lead Technician Workforce Development and Medicines Management is responsible for leading the education and training strategy for the pharmacy department, including Pharmacists (in collaboration with the Lead pharmacists), technicians, students, Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs) and apprentices. The post holder will lead and manage the Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician (MMPT) ward-based service, ensuring high standards of patient care and medicines optimisation. They will also support Accredited Checking Technicians (ACTs) in the dispensary, contributing to safe and efficient dispensing processes.

Job Type: Permanent 37.5 hours per week, plus on-call shifts. Location: The London Clinic 20 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW. Salary: Band 7 equivalent salary range on offer based on skills and experience. Benefits package:

  • Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide a comprehensive and effective patient centered Clinical Pharmacy service to designated Oncology/Haematology wards
  • Lead on and develop elements of the clinical pharmacy service to improve the patient experience.
  • Provide release of chemotherapy products according to GMP
  • Facilitate and promote rational and optimal medicines usage
  • Provide assimilated and relevant medicines information to healthcare professionals and patients
  • To participate in the out of hours pharmacy service as per agreed roster
  • Skills & Experience
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical council of Great Britain
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
  • Accreditation in Medicines Management(AIMM) qualification or Medicines Optimisation programme (MOP) or equivalent
  • Accredited Checking Technician(ACPT)
  • 3 years post qualification experience, with a minimum of 1 year senior technician.
