Job summary

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Ambulatory Cancer Care Unit (Level 3), you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients undergoing systemic anti cancer treatments (SACT) and respective supportive care treatments such as blood product support for a range of oncology and haemato-oncology diagnoses.

Main duties of the job

* To be able to work autonomously and also as part of a multi-disciplinary team. * To provide efficient, effective, and evidence-based cancer nursing care to patients at the Clinic. * To be competent in the recognition of and response to life-threatening events and or oncological emergencies. * To organise workload, and develop skills to continually adapt in line with changing clinical priorities. * Uphold all infection prevention and control strategies, acknowledging the enhanced considerations which apply when caring for cancer patients. * Disseminate and display best clinical practice for nurses, students, and healthcare assistants with regard to the care and management of peripheral and central venous access devices and intravenous therapies. * To competently monitor and administer blood product transfusion therapy. * To become competent in the monitoring, administration and application of oral, subcutaneous and intravenous Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies including the use of supportive measures such as scalp cooling. * Network and coordinate with specialist practitioners and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure dissemination of holistic patient centred care. * Act as the patients advocate, engaging members of the MDT as required to escalate their concerns and optimise experience and outcomes.

  • Deliver systemic anti-cancer therapies including chemotherapy and cutting-edge immunotherapies
  • Provide supportive outpatient care including blood products, bisphosphonates, venesection and more
  • Assess and triage using the UKONS 3 tool, supporting patients attending Acute Oncology Services
  • Collaborate with consultants, pharmacists, allied health professionals and therapists to deliver joined-up, individualised care
  • Offer ongoing psychological and emotional support to patients and their families
  • Be part of service development as we grow our unit, with opportunities to contribute ideas and lead change

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with NMC pin
  • SACT and IV Therapy trained (passports required)
