Job summary

* To be able to work autonomously and also collaboratively as part of a team. * To provide efficient, effective and evidence-based cancer nursing care. * To be competent in the recognition of life threatening/ and or oncology emergencies and act appropriately. * To uphold the highest standards of SACT administration and management, including toxicity assessment, CVAD care and symptom control

Main duties of the job

* The post holder will demonstrate autonomy in their ability to deliver exemplary, holistic care to patients with a broad range of oncology and haemato-oncology diagnoses * Demonstrate clinical competence in the administration of both systemic anti-cancer therapies and supportive treatments via a range of peripheral and central venous access devices. * Facilitate the provision of a co-ordinated, high quality ambulatory care service to cancer patients in consultation with the unit manager and multi-disciplinary team.

  • Provide exemplary, holistic care to people with oncology and haemato-oncology diagnoses with the aim of empowering them to be actively engaged in their care plan.
  • Deliver systemic anti-cancer therapies including cytotoxic chemotherapy and an ever-increasing range of new and novel immunotherapies.
  • Provide supportive care via blood product support, bisphosphonates, therapeutic venesection, post-transplant monitoring etc
  • Utilise the UKONS 3 triage tool in every day practice to assess fitness for treatment and to ensure the safety and timely care of patients accessing Acute Oncology Services (AOS).
  • Provide psychological and physical support to patients and families throughout their treatment journey.
  • Collaborate as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to critical decision making and individualised care planning.
