Main duties of the job

As a Consultant Psychiatrist Private Addictions/Medical Director, you will be accountable for, but not exclusively limited to, the following areas of responsibility.

  • Lead the recruitment, induction, and probation of doctors in line with company policies, ensuring compliance with training requirements, specialist registration, and practising privileges for visiting consultants.
  • Oversee medical staff appraisals, revalidation processes, and performance management, taking decisive action on any behavioural or clinical concerns in collaboration with the Hospital Director and HR.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT), ensuring healthcare policy, clinical governance, and best practice standards are effectively implemented and maintained.
  • Ensure effective medical cover across all levels, including robust arrangements for out-of-hours and annual leave, to guarantee safe and consistent service delivery.
  • Lead on clinical investigations, complaints, and crisis management, working closely with the Group Medical Director and Clinical Director to resolve issues and drive improvements.
  • Contribute to continuous learning by overseeing complaints, incidents, benchmarking, and service user feedback, ensuring lessons are embedded across the hospital.
  • Maintain your own clinical caseload, complete mandatory training, and represent the hospitals clinical expertise and innovation with commissioners, partners, and stakeholders.

You will have a track record of contributing to service change and improvement at a senior level, supported by strong leadership and influencing skills with a focus on delivering high-quality, innovative, patient-centred care. A flexible and positive team-orientated approach is essential, along with a commitment to values-based and evidence-based practice. Leadership and management training, or a willingness to undertake this, will be expected.
