Job summary

Working as a Healthy Lifestyle Advisor on ABLs specialist and targeted weight management programme Your Health Stockport you will be working with adults and/or families to support, motivate and advise those who are currently overweight or obese. You will be passionate about working with individuals to begin the life changing processes necessary for permanent and continued weight loss and weight maintenance.

You will be joining a large team of behaviour change specialists in ABL Health including Specialist Healthy Lifestyle Advisors, nutritionists, dietitians, GPs, psychotherapists and exercise specialists to deliver evidence based, holistic and realistic weight management to people in the community.

You will understand challenges and barriers that adults face with relation to their health (both physical and mental) and wellbeing. You will engage with and build a good rapport with adults from varying communities across Oldham.

You will deliver our existing programmes of weight management as well as supporting the development of new nutrition and exercise programmes that meet the needs of our clients. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and delivering motivational change which is client centered. You will have a background in nutrition, exercise, public health, community health or adult and/or family weight management and be an excellent team player and have a willingness to learn and develop.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include delivering ABL Healths adult and family weight management programmes in community settings, providing group and one-to-one sessions focused on nutrition, physical activity, behaviour change and exercise in line with NICE guidelines. The role involves carrying out client-centred assessments, managing and monitoring a caseload of clients, and supporting individuals using motivational interviewing and SMART goal setting to achieve sustainable lifestyle changes. You will maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks in line with policies and procedures, contribute to the development of programme resources, complete required training, and work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support healthier behaviours such as improved diet, increased physical activity, alcohol reduction and smoking cessation, while maintaining high standards of care within a clinical governance framework.

You will be a Healthy Lifestyle Advisor for Stockports Integrated Lifestyle Service Your Health Stockport, specialising in delivering high quality physical activity and contributing towards getting the residents of Stockport active through our interventions. You will also be required to deliver on our weight management curriculum communicating the key messages around behaviour change and sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

You will be a motivated, passionate, organised, and proactive advisor, with experience working in community health programmes. You will be passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and delivering motivational change which is client centred. You will have a background in supporting people to build their confidence and ability to make sustainable healthy behaviour changes which works for their personal circumstances.

Our team have working backgrounds in nutrition, weight management, exercise, brief alcohol advice and smoking cessation. We offer you a full in-house training package to help you support our clients on their journey to a sustainable healthy lifestyle change.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Delivering group exercises in line with weight management protocols whilst adhering to NICE guidelines.

Deliver ABL Healths adult/family weight management programme including nutrition, behaviour change and exercise delivery to groups and though one-to-ones, in the community.

Lead on the delivery of client centred assessments

Deliver evidence-based education around nutrition, physical activity and behavioural change as advised by ABL Health team and in line with ABL Health programme curriculums.

Deliver programmes with a client centred approach using skills of positive psychology and motivational interviewing

To maintain a case load of clients directing them to a variety of lifestyle interventions and monitoring their progress throughout their journey with ABL.

Carrying out administrative duties and recording accurate data in line with the appropriate policies and procedures.

Keeping up to date with knowledge and qualifications to ensure each client is following evidence-based methods to achieve their goals of weight loss and improved health.

Maintaining an approachable and empathetic nature whilst dealing with vulnerable people and helping them towards a better life.

Contribute towards the development of resource as part of continuous service development.

Undertake and complete all mandatory and additional skills training, as required.

Working with individuals and groups using SMART goal setting.

Keep detailed files, recording data accurately, ensuring all forms and other documentation is completed correctly and up to date in line with ABL policies and procedures.

To be able to organise own workload in order of priority and deadline dates, daily administration tasks and other work-related activities.

To attend and actively participate in team and wider company meetings.

To work with the wider multi-disciplinary team to improve and sustain health behaviours e.g., physical activity, healthy eating, alcohol reduction and smoking cessation.

To work within the framework of clinical governance to maintain and improve patient care, quality and efficiency.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Educated to degree level or demonstrable relevant equivalent experience.
  • CIMSPA (previously REPS) qualified Level 2 Gym instructor/Group exercise award or equivalent

Desirable

  • Sports Coaching qualification.
  • Degree in nutrition and/or eligible to be registered as an associate or full member of the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists/ or degree OR in exercise, psychology, public health, other health related field.
