Job summary

As a Workplace Wellbeing Advisor, you will play a key role in delivering evidence-based, equitable stop smoking services across Gloucestershire, helping to reduce health inequalities and support individuals to improve their health. The role focuses on working directly with employers and employees to provide smoking cessation support within workplace settings, with particular emphasis on reaching those in routine and manual occupations. The successful candidate will be able to work flexibly, both independently and collaboratively, as part of a wider team committed to improving community health and wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will work with employers and occupational health teams to promote smoke-free workplaces and deliver place-based smoking cessation services that support employees to quit smoking. You will provide evidence-based stop smoking interventions in line with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme, delivering support through one-to-one sessions, drop-ins, group programmes, telephone and online support. The role involves motivating and empowering clients to address nicotine addiction, providing education on smoking cessation and behavioural change, and supporting individuals to set realistic and sustainable goals. You will collaborate with a range of professionals to embed smoking cessation within routine care, lead peer support groups to help prevent relapse, and ensure services maximise health gains while reducing health inequalities. You will also analyse service and population data to understand local needs, deliver services across diverse community and workplace settings, maintain accurate records in line with ABL Health policies, and effectively prioritise a varied workload to meet service demands. The post will work under the line management of the Workplace Wellbeing Programme Lead and will play a key role in embedding the service across workplaces in the borough.

The role of the Workplace Wellbeing Advisor is to support the delivery of evidenced based, equitable stop smoking services to help to reduce the inequalities throughout Gloucestershire. This will focus on supporting people to quit within a workplace setting, with particular emphasis on clients who work in routine and manual roles. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, independently and as part of a team.

Training will be given to ensure staff / applicants are equipped to deliver effective services.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Work with employers/occupational health to influence smoke free workplaces and deliver placebased smoking cessation services to support employees.

Motivate and empower clients to make changes to address their addiction.

Explain to clients the principles of the nicotine and Stop Smoking Service to enable them to make informed - choices.

Deliver evidence-based stop smoking interventions, these include one to one, drop in, group sessions, telephone, or on-line support, these must be in accordance with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme.

Work with other professionals to embed smoking cessation as part of routine client care.

Maximise the impact of smoking cessation on health gains and reduce health inequalities.

To understand the analysis of health and equalities data including service data identifying local need to inform local service need.

Provide a high quality, efficient and cost-effective services throughout a diverse range of community settings.

Lead peer support group sessions for successful quitters following intervention to prevent relapse.

Provide evidence-based education in all aspects of smoking cessation and behavioural change as well on-going motivational support.

Work with individuals to set realistic sustainable goals.

Ensure all client and service records are up to date, accurate and satisfy the ABL Health documentation policies.

You will be a motivated, passionate, organised, and proactive individual with significant experience in smoking cessation or addiction.

This role will be demanding as services develop and should become integrated in all settings. It will be essential that you use your own judgement to prioritise competing demands and workload effectively to specific timescales.

Duties and Responsibilities

This post will work under the line management of the Workplace Wellbeing Programme Lead. The role will be varied, challenging, and rewarding as the service becomes embedded in all local workplaces across the borough.

Skills and Competencies Required

Be an experienced Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner within the community. (Or willing to undergo training provided to become one)

Experience of working with evolving and developing services

Positive and proactive outlook with the ability to motivate, engage and support others to achieve the highest standards and outcomes.

Adept in communication; A strong communicator who adapts the message to fit the needs of the audience including clients, staff, and volunteers at all levels.

Build strong relationships, foster trust and co-operation among colleagues, stakeholders throughout community settings.

Quality driven; you naturally seek high standards and actively seek to improve them.

Value and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.
