Senior Mental Health Practitioner/Creative Therapist

Job summary

You will be a active member of the senior team at Be U Notts, supporting service users into the service and empowering the clinicals in the team to thrive. This role will includes holding a small caseload to support children and young people in your preferred creative modality (Drama, Play, Music, Art).

This post will work under the line management of the Head of Service at Be U Notts. Managerial and clinical supervision will be provided. The role will be varied, challenging, and rewarding as you will work as part of a diverse clinical team pro-actively developing the service through co-production, delivery, and ongoing innovation.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will support the wider staff team with day-to-day risk management and clinical guidance, contributing to the triage and assessment of Children and Young People (CYP) referrals and carrying out comprehensive My Story assessments that reflect each childs unique needs and experiences. You will deliver creative, short-term therapeutic interventionsboth one-to-one and group-basedworking independently, including occasional lone working, while providing safeguarding oversight, safety planning, and appropriate signposting for CYP experiencing self-harm or suicidal ideation. The role involves engaging in information-gathering calls with CYP, families, and professionals; maintaining strong links with external agencies to support effective signposting, safeguarding, and onward referrals; and ensuring timely, accurate, and secure record-keeping using the designated case management systems. You will use risk assessments to understand levels of risk, support clinical record audits, deliver professional training where required, facilitate peer support for CYP, and assist senior practitioners by covering tasks to support the wider team. Effective, compassionate communication is essential, including the ability to engage sensitively with CYP according to their individual needs, ensure they feel listened to and respected, and liaise confidently with parents to help minimise risk and promote safety.

Experienced in working with children and young people across early intervention / mental health settings and experienced in engaging the whole family.

Confident in supporting / offering interventions to children and young people presenting mild to moderate risk behaviours.

Able to build strong therapeutic relationships in a short period of time.

Positive and proactive to achieve the highest standards and outcomes in engagement with children, young people, their parent/carers and professionals.

Adept in communication and confident communicating with CYP, their parents/carers and health professionals.

  • Demonstrate 2 years post-qualification experience in a creative therapist role.
  • Confident in triage and assessment of CYP, supporting / offering interventions to children and young people presenting mild to moderate risk behaviours.
