Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a Clerical Officer to continue their professional development at one of the largest cancer centres in Europe.

We are looking for a keen, enthusiastic individual with an interest in developing administrative services to help us continue to deliver exceptional, high-quality integrated care to our patients. CPP is an excellent place to train and develop new skills, and further study will be supported.

Essentially, the role is to provide clerical support to the Histopathology team comprising of Clinical Histopathologists and laboratory personnel, ensuring that a high standard of service is maintained, to meet the needs of the patient and those of the department.

Main duties of the job

To keep accurate, up-to-date patient records using manual and electronic systems: TDHC (Histopathology database), Medway, CWP, HODS etc. which involves data entry and maintenance of various databases. Other administrative duties include covering workload during absences, filing of paperwork, blocks and slides and dealing with multi- disciplinary meetings.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities What you have to do

To work as part of a team and to provide clerical support to teams of Clinical Consultant Histopathologist, SpRs, BMS and Pathology Office staff

Print run: appropriate dissemination of a variety of medical reports and pathology material, some of which is highly confidential

Filing of medical reports and general filing

Scanning paper files and reports into databases

Ensuring accurate patient demographics when inputting personal and clinical data into on to databases and Medway systems may involve resolving subsequent discrepancies.

Catalogue daily, all Christie pathological specimens (theatre/wards/departments) using Technidata and dealing with any subsequent problems

Return pathological material to the referring hospital recording relevant tracking information for accreditation and audit purposes using manual and/or electronic systems

To provide clerical and organisation assistance in connection with trials and joint research projects (involving clinical departments and external bodies)

Organising special deliveries with various couriers

Prepare various Multidisciplinary Team meetings (MDTs), ensuring all relevant information and pathological material is available in a timely manner on behalf of the Consultant Histopathologists

Work with Histology Services Manager and colleagues to improve quality and range of services, with resources being managed according to agreed policies and priorities

Attend appropriate training and education sessions at the request of the manager

To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post that are required by the Histology Service Manager and the Divisional Secretarial Service Manager

Safety:

To observe safety regulations and attend mandatory fire, manual handling and other courses as required

To assist in the investigations of any incidents.

To be responsible for own professional/personal development, including participation in on-going appraisals and personal development plan

To comply with CPP policy for annual mandatory updates and have knowledge of COSHH and Lifting and Handling Policies
