GP with Extended Role in Pain Management

Job summary

Develop and implement pain management plans for patients with acute and chronic pain. Providing clinical guidance and advice to colleagues, including advanced practice pain clinicians, in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team structure. Practice at consultant grade in Pain in keeping with functioning as an expert Pain clinician (conducting initial assessments, medication reviews, prescribing, conducting complex case reviews, communicating with primary and secondary care, leading MDT patient reviews). Engage in teaching and mentoring, education and supervision. Supporting the delivery of a high-quality community pain management service, in line with the priorities of the service and ICB. This may include, but is not limited to: Promotion of long-term condition management for chronic conditions, with a focus on quality of life, i.e. function, emotional well-being, social functioning, daily activities and return to work. Providing support to patients to manage fitness, physical health and mental wellbeing, with education around optimisation of long-term conditions. This would include the use of social prescribing, peer support, third-sector involvement, support to remain or return to work and recognition and support of mental health needs The service should work to identify areas of variation (at primary, community and secondary care levels) to reduce inequalities in access and best establish 'value' across the pain health economy. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced GPwER in Chronic Pain to join our multidisciplinary team at the Mid & South Essex service. This is a unique opportunity to lead and develop pain management services, working collaboratively across specialties to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
