This is an exciting opportunity to be an Advanced Clinician in Pain (physiotherapist) within an integrated community MSK service (MSK, pain, pelvic health and rheumatology)based in Oxfordshire!Following the outcome of a recent procurement process, the Oxfordshire MSK service will be provided by Connect Health from October 1st 2022. The service is currently being delivered by Healthshare Ltd., and we are looking for clinicians to join the existing clinical team already delivering specialist MSK Pain care in Oxfordshire. Services will be delivered from a range of healthcare, wellness and leisure centre venues spanning the county with opportunities to work a varied timetable from locations that are locally accessible to colleagues and the communities we serve.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate:

  • have experience in delivering individual and group based psychologically informed care for people with persistent pain, with tangible results and commitment to providing excellent, personalised care.
  • have experience and clinical expertise in triaging, conducting initial assessments (screen for red flags, diagnosis, ensuring completion of all appropriate investigations) and completion of a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment.
  • have undertaken/ be undertaking training leading to non-medical, independent prescribing qualification, with the view that this knowledge supports clinical conversations in medication reviews for the management of persistent pain.
  • have experience of developing team members
  • demonstrate outstanding values that underpin clinical expertise and people management (appraisals, supervision, annual and other leave requests, participating / leading multi-provider and service wide MDT case discussions and meetings)
  • have a proven track record of influencing patients, people, commissioners, and pathways and the ability to further develop and foster productive relationships with local patient groups, Consultants, GPs, pain services, IAPT services and other key stakeholders.
  • be able to understand, influence and drive quality, achievement of KPIs, audits, balancing capacity and demand and integration of EBP.
  • process educational acuity in developing and providing specialist teaching in Pain management practice.

Our interview process is competency-based and will seek to provide opportunity for you to demonstrate working at Level 7 practice across all four pillars required for an advanced practice role.

The Advanced Clinician in Pain will be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner, within scope of practice and deliver a quality clinical service meeting the clinical and operational needs of the service, with more senior support as required.

They will appropriately triage patients and conduct comprehensive specialist biopsychosocial assessments. They will formulate, deliver, review and progress individual face-to-face, telephone and video consultations and face to face and online group programmes. They will ensure effective treatment, a positive patient experience and specialist advice and timely discharge are achieved.

The pain element of the community integrated MSK service is physiotherapy led and provides specialist input for people with chronic pain and mild to moderate levels of pain related distress and disability, but who may at times be complex. Services are community based and provide:

1) Individual and group-based pain management/rehabilitation, delivered face to face and/or virtually (e.g., by telephone, video, digital platform)

2) Medicines optimisation
