This is an exciting opportunity to be an Senior Clinician in Pain (physiotherapist) within an integrated community MSK service (MSK, pain, pelvic health and rheumatology) based in Oxfordshire! Following the outcome of a recent procurement process, the Oxfordshire MSK service will be provided by Connect Health from October 1st 2022. The service is currently being delivered by Healthshare Ltd., and we are looking for clinicians to join the existing clinical team already delivering specialist MSK Pain care in Oxfordshire. Services will be delivered from a range of healthcare, wellness and leisure centre venues spanning the county with opportunities to work a varied timetable from locations that are locally accessible to colleagues and the communities we serve.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Clinician in Pain will be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner, within scope of practice and deliver a quality clinical service meeting the clinical and operational needs of the service with senior support as required.
They will support appropriate triaging of patients and conduct comprehensive specialist biopsychosocial assessments. They will formulate, deliver, review and progress individual face-to-face, telephone and video consultations and face to face and online group programmes and ensure effective treatment, a positive patient experience and specialist advice and timely discharge are achieved.
The pain element of the community integrated MSK service, is physiotherapy led and provides specialist input for people with chronic pain and mild to moderate levels of pain related distress and disability, but who may at times be complex. Services are community based and provide:
1) Individual and group-based pain management/rehabilitation, delivered face to face and/or virtually (e.g., by telephone, video, digital platform)
2) Medicines optimisation

Key TasksTo utilise expertise to function as a senior pain specialist, managing a varied clinical
and at times complex caseload within the community service contract. Specifically,
when operating as a senior Clinician in Pain this will include:
To triage referrals from first contact practitioners (e.g., GPs, FCPs) directing the
patient into the appropriate primary, secondary or tertiary care service according to
their clinical presentation.
To conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment of patients with a wide variety
of physical, and emotional needs and based upon the appropriate use, interpretation
and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
To use clinical reasoning to make decisions regarding the clinical diagnosis and future
clinical management of patients
To evaluate and make decisions about management and treatment options
considering the available evidence, best practice and patient choice.
To manage patients using a hands off psychologically informed pain rehabilitation
approach and to facilitate behaviour change and active self-management.
To formulate, deliver, review and progress individual treatment programmes, ensuring
effective treatment, specialist advice and timely discharge is achieved.
To provide individual and group-based pain management/rehabilitation, delivered face
to face and/or virtually (e.g., by telephone, video, digital platform)
To demonstrate clinical competencies to required company standards for a Senior
clinician in pain
To conduct all clinical interventions and related actions in line with relevant
professional standards to your professional background, such as CSP and HCPC, as
well as Connect standards and policies and where applicable, contract parameters and
KPIs.
To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical
and professional activities.
To maintain patient documentation, records, and accurate statistical information to
reflect care provided and to meet professional and organisation standards as well as
local and national guidelines.
To evaluate own clinical practice through reflection, audit, and outcome measures, to
continually improve the service to patients and promote evidence-based practice.
To be responsible for organisation, prioritisation, and planning of own caseload with
support from our patient care co-ordination centre (PCC).

governance and participate in clinical audit.
To demonstrate the ability to identify concerns regarding child safeguarding, welfare

clinical management of persistent pain conditions for the patients presenting to the
intermediate care service, who at times may be complex. Expected to be positive,
constructive, and approachable and always carry out tasks with fairness and integrity.
From a clinical perspective the Senior Clinician in Pain will be educated in the field of Pain
Management care and be able to provide a source of expertise within the team through a
track record of tangible outcomes. They will be expected to be well organised, conscientious,
and capable of managing the varied and often challenging demands of an NHS persistent
pain caseload of patients in a variety of clinical and potentially pressured environments.
Excellent communication skills are vital to the role and the Senior Clinician in Pain must be able
