Job summary

Youll perform routine laboratory procedures including preparing culture media for use in clinical procedures, stock checks, management of consumables, topping up liquid nitrogen tanks and laboratory equipment cleaning.

These are just some of the day-to-day Technician tasks, but thats not all the role is; well support your training and development as you progress and learn more, all the way through to oocyte collections, therapeutic sperm preparation, diagnostic semen analysis and cryopreserving semen samples.

Well provide a fantastic grounding in how an IVF lab works and how theyre managed, along with providing a strong foundation in embryology techniques.

Youd be joining a great clinic, with a great team around you. Youll have the benefit of the years of experience this team has. Care Woking undertakes many complex cases, including PGT-A, PGT-M/SR and social oocyte freezing, and performs around 650 fresh and 600 frozen treatment cycles annually.

About you:

Ideally, youll have a degree in Reproductive Science. Youll have a keen interest in working in a fast-paced, scientific setting and have a desire to be the best you can be.

Youre a team player who works collaboratively, youre a self-starter who is able to complete tasks alone once youre shown.

You have fantastic attention to detail and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) ensuring inclusivity for our diverse community of patients and staff.

Location/Salary:

This is a 12-month fixed term contract, based at 5 Hill View Rd, Woking GU22 7HW (if you drive, we have free onsite parking). Working part-time (20hrs a week) across 08:00-16:00 Mon-Fri (with some occasional weekends required).

Job responsibilities

As a Laboratory Technician youll provide support to Clinical Scientists in some routine procedures following training and competency assessment. To assist with the maintenance of the laboratory, including record keeping, equipment maintenance and audit. Role accountabilities and duties: Clinical duties To perform diagnostic semen analysis according to UKAS standards as per standard operating procedure (SOP). To participate in the completion of the NEQAS external quality control scheme for semen analysis. To prepare gradients and culture dishes for use in laboratory procedures, ensuring aseptic technique is used. To monitor and record CO2 cylinder levels and changing of cylinders in a timely manner. To level check and fill liquid nitrogen dewars according to the laboratory schedule, including alarm testing and monitoring system maintenance. To assist in sending result reports to referrers for diagnostic tests performed in the laboratory To maintain accurate records of all clinical activities performed and to prepare treatment cycle paperwork such as lab sheets / work sheets. To maintain accurate records of cryopreserved gametes and embryos. To assist in laboratory data collection. To prepare documents for the transport of gametes and embryos to and from other fertility clinics, including relevant consent forms. To support Clinical Scientists in witnessing and double signing in accordance with HFEA regulations and Care SOPs. Location: Care Woking To undertake routine equipment monitoring as necessary, as well as calibration and validation of all laboratory equipment. To perform routine stock checks and maintaining agreed levels of consumables, liaising with the embryology team to submit orders as required. To maintain, monitor and audit the consumable and reagent traceability system. To assist with auditing in the laboratory. To assist with lab cleaning and maintenance according to SOP, ensuring glass and sharps bins are changed regularly and benches are cleaned daily. To ensure stocks of paperwork and embryology stationery are available in the laboratory. To assist the Laboratory Administrator where required for notes retrieval and filing and sending reports to satellite units and referring clinicians. To liaise with other departments and other CA Care RE units as required. To attend laboratory and unit staff meetings as required. To be prepared to travel to other Care units as and when required. Systems and digital processes Input data, find information on the clinical patient database and follow the system pathways to ensure accurate record keeping and efficient and safe processes. Embrace developments and new systems to maximise results and efficiency. Suggest new ideas and improvements. Use Microsoft Outlook to communicate effectively with colleagues. Governance and safety Together, with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that all processes are followed in accordance with the standard operating procedures. Maintain accurate and timely records.
